NCBI ID   WP_004923779.1    Uniprot ID   A0A7G2SAY1
Organism   Acinetobacter baylyi ADP1
Function   assembly of type IV pilus
DNA binding and uptake

Function

The seven competence proteins, ComB, ComP, PilV, PilX and FimT are absolutely essential for natural transformation. These proteins are hydrophilic and are similar to pilins, the structural subunits of type IV pili (T4P). The disruption of comB, comP and the deletion of pilV, pilX or fimT resulted in complete transformation deficiencies. DNA binding and uptake studies with comP-mutants revealed that ComP is absolutely essential for DNA binding and/or uptake.
