Function
ComEA is a DNA-binding protein critical for the uptake of extracellular DNA during natural transformation. It binds to double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) at the cell surface, facilitating its transport into the cell through the competence-specific DNA uptake machinery. ComEA works in concert with other proteins such as ComEC, which is involved in the transport of single-stranded DNA into the cell.
