Description ; 32 genes encoded within the PAI were expressed at least twofold higher in the wild‐type strain than in 042aggR These genes included aaiA through aaiY and coincides two‐dimensional gel electrophoresis (2‐D PAGE) result; AggR autoactivates its expression, with the DNA sequence extending from bases −50 to +114 relative to the predicted transcriptional start being necessary and sufficient for this autoregulation. EMSA suggested two AggR-binding sites within the −82 to +114 region, DNAse I footprinting was consistent with the EMSA data, two discrete MBP–AggR footprints were observed.
