Overview

Name   comGG   Type   Machinery gene
Locus tag   BSU_24670 Genome accession   NC_000964
Coordinates   2556137..2556511 (-) Length   124 a.a.
NCBI ID   NP_390347.1    Uniprot ID   P25959
Organism   Bacillus subtilis subsp. subtilis str. 168
Function   dsDNA binding to the cell surface; assembly of the pseudopilus
DNA binding and uptake

Function

The comGG gene is a component of the transformation pseudopilus machinery. ComGG is essential for the assembly and function of the pseudopilus, which binds to extracellular DNA and retracts to pull the DNA into the periplasmic space.
