Function

NucA is an integral membrane protein that is regulated by the induction of natural competence. It catalyzes the cleavage of double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) into single-stranded DNA (ssDNA), which is essential for the efficient uptake of transforming DNA. This process allows the cell to internalize and integrate exogenous DNA into its genome.
