Target/EffectionVirD2 is an endonuclease that nicks the T-DNA region of Ti-/Ri-plasmids at border repeat sequences flanking T-DNA. During T-DNA processing, VirD2 covalently attaches to the 5′ end of the resulting T-strand. VirD2 serves as a “pilot protein” to lead T-strands through the T4SS and into the host cell. Once in the host, VirD2 probably plays a major role in targeting T-strands to the nucleus
