TADB 2.0: an updated database of bacterial type II toxin-antitoxin loci

Toxin-antitoxin (TA) loci play a role in bacterial stress physiology and the stabilisation of horizontally acquired elements. TA loci are found abundantly distributed among free-living Bacteria and Archaea.
TA loci code for a stable toxin that is neutralized by a short-lived antitoxin. The antitoxin can be either an antisense RNA (Type 1 TA loci) or a protein (Type 2 TA loci).
To date, six type TA systems have been reported (see the recent review of Rebecca Page & Wolfgang PetiNature in Chemical Biology 2016, 12, 208–214).
The aim of this PostgreSQL-based TADB database is to create and maintain a resource of all currently available type II TA loci-relevant data
ranging from 'wet' experimental data to information garnered by bioinformatics analyses.
